Hope you had a great Memorial Day. It was nice to have a little break, but it’s full speed ahead now.
June is going to be a very busy month for this Ergon Toyota. Although Shane Sieg is driving the #15 truck in Dover this week, I will be back behind the wheel for three big races in June. I might not be behind the wheel this weekend, but I’ll still be at the track. I’ll be helping out the team with whatever they need. Whether it’s spotting or turning wrenches, I’ll do anything I can to help. Sure, I love being at the helm of the Ergon Toyota, but the bottom line is that I want to get my team into Victory Lane. So, I’ll contribute however I can.
Last weekend was a heart breaker. We were running like scalded dog at Mansfield. The Ergon truck was super fast. We qualified in the top-10, and were racing in the top-10 all day long. I think we had a real shot of scoring a top-five. Just when everything was coming together, the left-rear tire blew and forced us to make an unscheduled pit stop. We finished in 26th-place, still on the lead lap. I was really proud of my team for giving me such a good truck and for not giving up once we got the flat tire.
I know it’s starting to sound like a broken record, but we’re showing that we have what it takes to win races. Unfortunately, we’re just not getting the results. We’ve been able to hang with the leaders and pass a lot of trucks, but something always ruins our day. We just need to shake our bad luck and everything will fall into place. I really believe that we can win a race this year if we keep running as well as we have. I’d be discouraged if we weren’t competitive, but that’s not the case. We’re doing everything right and it’s showing on the track, so I’m optimistic that the future will be bright ahead.
